National Volunteer Week provided LCC staff with the opportunity to thank and to celebrate the blessing our volunteers are to our services.

Over 200 Lutheran Community Care volunteers in Adelaide, Murray Bridge and the Barossa Valley attended events to celebrate National Volunteer Week during May.

The metropolitan lunch held at Immanuel College, Novar Gardens was attended by 100 volunteers and staff. Channel 7 news presenter, Graeme Goodings charmed our guests with amusing stories about his career in the media, spanning over 40 years. His insight into his battle with cancer in 2004 was appreciated by everyone in the room.

The 80 LCC Barossa Valley volunteers attending their luncheon at Tanunda were delighted as their own ambassador; Maggie Beer shared her amazing journey. Her insight into her life inspired us all.

Murray Bridge office celebrated with 20 of their 30 volunteers. Nayano Neumann, Manager said, ‘We could not run our programs without the help of our many volunteers. Volunteer Week gives us the chance to say a big thank you to our volunteers who bring their individual abilities to make programs achievable.’

Helen Lockwood, Director LCC said, ‘It was such a pleasure to be at the volunteer luncheons and to see the enjoyment on the faces of our volunteers, hear the laughter in the rooms and especially, to see the interaction between staff and volunteers and their obvious mutual respect.

‘Our volunteers are truly inspiring people who selflessly donate their time and energy to help others. Many of our volunteers have been helping out for decades, some for over 40 years. ‘

Volunteers at Lutheran Community Care work with staff in a variety of programs, which include: Emergency Relief, Op Shops, Handyman Tasks, Mobile Crèche, Home Visiting, Community Visitors Scheme, Financial Counselling, Refugee Services, Administration Assistance, Mail Outs, Youth Mentoring and Christmas Hampers.
